Pink Oyster Mushrooms
A nice cluster of some pink oyster mushrooms that I grew last summer.
They are a "tropical" variety.

Nice looking! I have been thinking about trying to grow some mushrooms when we move to San Antonio.

I knew conceptually that there were lots of oyster mushroom varieties around, but generally if at all, I would only read about them. Seeing this wonderful photo is definitely pushing me to think about growing mushrooms more.

Wow! Those are gorgeous.
I grew portabellas a couple of years ago from a kit. They did very well and produced quite a few sets over about three months. I got mine from a science company, so they were quite a bit less than the same kit cost anywhere else. ($23 a kit versus $35-$50 for the exact same kit) Here is the link, if anyone is interested. http://www.enasco.com/c/science/Live...rowing%20Kits/ They have three kinds, white button, ★★★★ake, and portabella. |

Thank you, tomatovillians.
We also grow Lion's Mane (Hericium erinaceus) occasionally.

We also grow Shiitake indoors on supplemented hardwood sawdust blocks and outdoors with natural log cultivation.

Would love to see more details on your cultivation systems. That pink oyster is gorgeous!

that is so pretty! I've thought of trying to grow mushrooms here, goodness knows there are enough stumps and logs since hurricane Sandy! Problem is many kits or spawn contain too much product and for someone like me, where my kids do not eat mushrooms, I wouldn't know what to do with all of them.
I like those little kits Livinonfaith, I'm going to try one, thanks!

GnomeGrown, if you get the chance, try the Blue Oyster, they are firmer and are great on the grill.

Gnomegrown, Do you grow your Lion's Mane from plugs or a kit? That one is just gorgeous.
My Dad had them growing wild in his back yard and I was lucky enough to have them for a few years before he threw the log away. They are soooo tasty sauteed in a little butter! Yum! Would love to grow those, if they are fairly easy. |
