Default Pepper harvests

Today I harvested just short of 8 lbs of chili peppers: Sahuaro, Ancho San Martin, and Purple Serrano from a total of 5 plants in 12" pots.

Nice haul Richard. How about some pictures, I've never grown those varieties.

I'm working on a photo. If the site admins would increase the limit on the number of photos it would help.

The Sahuaro has a "classic" northern Mexico chili pepper taste: not as sour as a jalapeño and about 2/3 the heat. I harvested them in the green stage. In the red stage they will be a bit sweeter and no loss of heat.

The Purple Serrano are hot by Gringo standards: about 40k scovilles by my estimation. They are smaller peppers, so when cooking one 2" Purple Serrano is similar to putting a single Hungarian Wax pepper in your recipe.

The Ancho San Martin is typically used for chili rellanos. In the dark green stage the peppers have quite a flavor of their own and no heat without the seeds. I'm at a loss to describe this flavor: it is not bell pepper, it is not fruity, it is poblano.

Hot is hot. It's been a while since I'ave had anything hotter than sriracha, the other day I ate a fresh thai chile which rates about 90k scoville and my face immediately began to water. good stuff, fruity with a slightly herbaceous finish.

Wow nice, 8 pounds of peppers in the first half of June!

So far I've only picked a few jalapenos here and there, but everything should be popping within a couple of weeks.

Sriracha is rated at 2,200 scovilles. A fresh jalapeno is about 5,000 scovilles and sells for about $0.79 / lb in southern CA. Thai chilis originated in the western hemisphere. The parentage is typically Aji or Serrano.

Yesterday I harvested about 5.5 lbs of green blocky and pointed sweet peppers. There's a similar amount of orange and red sweet peppers still ripening in the garden.

That is great! Have just harvested a few peppers here and there and not many yet but have quite a few ripening on plants. Congrats on your harvests!

You are way ahead of me. I have one or two Jalapenos that are ready to be picked green but everything else is a long way from ready. Congratulations.

Yeah Hermitian has a good spot! I'm going to use his fertilizer next year too! I have some peppers just forming, but that is actually way ahead of time for here! I harvested 5 tomatoes, that's a recorded for me. June 6th first tomato. I have to settle for red, white and musk strawberries. I'm not complaining!! Today's harvest (pineberries, June, everbearing, Alpine whites, musk).

Thanks! It's good to grow strawberries in the north, so we don't get too jealous of the south and west producing fruit like crazy. At least we can produce something early here. Here's the day before, Tuesday's harvest, I enjoy the morning harvest. Soon the raspberries will be producing. I have many more of them than strawberries. It's going to be a good year for raspberries. Also soon time to forage wild berries. I enjoy doing that too. I could stay in the garden all day. I usually spend a couple hours a day. I have enough plants I need to.

Here's 3 lbs (about 2 gallons) of habaneros I harvested today. These peppers are from my 3 year old plant that did its all and expired this weekend. Not a lack of water or anything else - just completion of life cycle. It certainly did its best - not only in the quantity of peppers, but they are D*mn Hot!! I wouldn't use more than 1 per quart or 2 per gallon of salsa. Here you see them sitting in a large bowl, inside an oversize plastic bag before going into the refrigerator. In a day or two I'll sort and vacuum seal them for longer term refrigeration and freezing.

Hey wondered where you were H! Yeah I put peppers in my tomato sauce tonight, had pasta. the tomatoes were mine too. Stuffed some more with cream cheese for appetizers. I have enough powder for the next decade. I made salsa last week.
I didn't get that many chili peppers this year. The hot peppers though seemed to do well.

Some photos

Trinidad Congo, man these are hot!!

Above are daily harvests, been a good year! Another daily harvest.
