Default First watermelon - Early Canada

Never grown watermelons before, but since I have some extra space, figured why not?

This one is early Canada from Tania. Very nice flavor, sweet, compact vine. 78 days for me. Perfect size too, about 8" diameter, so there is no waste:

Such low maintenance crop (it seems), will be growing more next year for sure! Any favorite smaller size watermelons you grow and would recommend for next year to try?

Regards,
D

Nice! My kids have been begging for me to grow water melon. How much room does one plant of this variety take up?

Not much space at all, I let it sprawl, but as compact as it is, and if you trellis it upright - maybe 2-3' wide and 4-5' tall? Really compact! I think I will let it grow upright next year...

If you want to try them next year - just remind me later on in the season, I'll be happy to send you some seeds.
