Flea Beetle trap crop success
I had my doubts about trap crop effectiveness. I figured that they would just shift the percentage of attacks away from the "wanted" vegetable, but in this case the trap crop was 100% effective.
This year I planted radishes around the base of my some of my peppers and tomatoes, and you can see here that the flea beetles totally ignored the peppers. The leaves are touching, and the radish leaves are crawling with beetles. The big holes in the pepper leaves are from slugs. I'm a bit worried that I will have an explosion of flea beetles next year from feeding them so well this year. |
