Hot Weather Replacement Tomato
I had to pull a 5 foot tall Brandy Boy yesterday. I think the weather here in El Dorado Hills just east of Sacramento is a little hot for that variety. It initially set some fruit but then as soon as the 90+ temps arrived it shut down and leaves started browning. I have 5 Earthtainers and all on auto watering. The other plants are doing well other than some green shoulders because of the 100 degree temps we had a few weeks ago. I now have a vacancy in one of the containers and am thinking about just putting in a Hybrid I can count on. I already have Red Cherry, Ace, 2 Big Boys and Green Zebra. The Big boys and cherries are doing well.
I am thinking that a Better Boy would be a good choice. We don't get frost until probably December at the earliest and even then it might only be between midnight and 7 AM. Any other recommendations for a heat hardy hybrid would be appreciated. Thanks, Doyle |
