Daily Pickin
Minus the canteloupe, a typical daily harvest in the early goings. I also got tons of peppers, but do not harvest and use str8 off the vine. Also smoked some chicken yesterday in the torrential heat. Took a drive yesterday down to the community G to check things out, and it looks aweful, this is about 15 acres of garden space with 100's of plots (think like 200$ a year, w/ *free* water). You always know there is a mix at the community with a fair share of idiots, but I know a couple of peeps that garden down there and consider them "master" gardens with decades of experience, and their tomatoes (as well as all others) were totally destroyed. I can't recall worse in 20 years. They have even done a segment on the news about the blight. Some people grow commercially for local restrurants and have 200 plants, every one of them is a goner and dying on the vine. So I guess I feel better about the state of my maters, the raised beds save the day once again. Everyone who planted in the ground got trounced. The best looking crop so far is Okra with the intense heat, plants are starting to look like trees.
