CMV OR TMV or....????
This is a pic of my only Brad's Black Heart.
I'm not sure whats going on but it's probably not good. I have not used any herbicide so I doubt that's the problem. Any ideas. If we get a good ID we could use the pic in I believe Tom's post requesting pics. Tim

Looks like it could be Cucumber Mosaic, possibly.
have a look here: http://www.avrdc.org/pdf/tomato/CMV.pdf or here: http://www.avrdc.org/photos/tomato_diseases/CMV_02.jpg That photo can be found here: http://www.avrdc.org/photos/tomato_diseases/index.html Hope this helps.

Tim have your neighbors use any herbicide?
go to google and type in tomato herbicide damage, then click on images and you will find a lot of photos. you can do the same for tomato diseases. Here is one I found that looks like yours. Worth http://tbn0.google.com/images?q=tbn:...tom_24d_sm.jpg |

Thanks Feldon.
I grubbed around all of the pictures and that was as about as close as I could get. The only thing I have seen like Tims tomatoes was from herbicide. FROM FAR AWAY!!! I'm not plagued with some of the more nasty stuff that others have. My neighbor was about to spray roundup for poison ivy about 30 feet from my back patch (((UP WIND)))) but after I told him what it would do he decided to wait until the tomatoes where gone and I could do it. His wife wants tomatoes. That was close. Worth |

I think it is CMV. The links that sirtanon provided confirm it.
Worth, I really wanted it to be herbicidal damage. The damage from herbicide does look similar. Oh well. I did give my Uncle a Blackheart. I may ride over and pinch a sucker. .....not my Uncle, but off his Blackheart tomato plant. Tim

***** How many other plants do you have out and is this one the only one affected? Doesn't look to me like herbicide damage and if it were herbicide drift most of your plants would be affected. And looking at the odds, I'd think CMV before I'd think TMV. In any case it looks viral and there are no cures for viral systemic diseases.

You might as well pull the thing up as you know what will happen if you don't.
Another good reason no to plant too close. Worth |

Oh by the way CMV and TMV were the only ones I didn't look at.
Thinking how rare TMV is. Stupid me! Worth |

I have quite a few with similar leave condition. Definitely have nothing to do with herbicide because they are indoor plants.
Mine have a brownish tint on the stems and leaves. dcarch

Ok, I agree with the photo diagnosis, but my limited knowledge is causing some doubts here....
Yes, I know, better to be "unencumbered by the thought process...." but, how did the plant get CMV? Seed born? Certainly no vectors for it are around yet.... At least not in my part of NC, where we just had temps below 30 for 5+ days! Any ideas? Lee

The plant/plants (BTD also)) that have CMV were being grown in containers. I placed them along the back fence near some shrubs, monkey grass and a honeysuckle vine. Apparently aphids can over winter in a protected environment. The vegetation is acting like an weedy garden allowing unwanted pest a place to thrive.
This is the area that I want the pots placed and I don't want to kill the honeysuckle or the other stuff ... so next year I will do some preventive spraying to kill any bugs that made it through the winter. Just my guess. Tim

Well, unfortunately I've got cucumber mosaic virus infecting a few plants this
year. Here's a photo of the foliage of my Orange Heirloom. Obviously not a good thing to have. Lee P.S. I hope to put together some other photos and make a sticky thread like the TSWV thread. I think a lot of the information in this one should be included as it is very thorough in the discussion and diaganosis.
