Default Rot on stem end of fruit

Can you help me ID this problem? Other than this, the plant looks perfectly healthy. Thanks.

That almost looks like sun scald, but would that occur where it is planted? Or else was there water trapped in the stem end?

I think it's the beginning stage of BER. Blossom-end rot starts as a water-soaked spot at the blossom end of the fruit just like in your pic. As the spot enlarges, in time it then turns dark and leathery.

But Sherry has said in her thread title the STEM end of the fruit, not the blossom end.

Me be confused.

It is on the stem end, not the blossom end. But you're right ... that's exactly what it looks like, just the other end.

Paul -- I'm thinking it couldn't be sun scald, since it's the only fruit affected ... and we've had hardly any sun this summer! (Really, I'm not kidding.) We have had rain the past couple weeks, but I've never had this happen before from standing water on the fruit. Is that something that generally happens? Maybe I've just been lucky till now.

Botrytis? (It looks like a typical gray mold on foliage and stems,
but the picture below looks a lot like your tomato.)

Oh my gosh! It looks exactly like that. I'm off to read up on this.

Thanks.

Sherry

EDIT: Yep, I'm sure that's it. We've had exactly the right conditions for it this year ... cool and damp. It's a wonder every plant doesn't have it!
