can I bury pepper and eggplant stems like tomato stems?

Mine could be buried if this is proper. Is it ok to do or should I not? The internet is full of contradictions.

I've been transplanting them all that way for years with good results. To me, when the seedlings are very young and fragile, that skinny stem in the soil helps the protect them from less than perfect conditions. I am not sure that there is a proven benefit, but there is certainly no issues with doing it that way.

There's either a post or a FAQs over at Garden Web that referecences some ag. studies showing better production, rooting, etc. when you deep plant peppers, like tomatoes.

I think where the confusion arises for some folks is b'c buried tomato stems form roots whereas buried pepper and eggplant stems don't.

Actually, I've had peppers grow roots from any nodes or "knuckles" that get buried, just not all along the stem like tomatoes root.

I have been burying them deep for 35 years with no ill effects. It may not help, but it doesn't hurt either. Actually I think peppers and eggplant will form roots along the buried stems, but not as easily as tomatoes do.
