Bucket Farm 2009 Update (June 6)

My garden seems to be growing at Mach 9. The "big kids in the back are making a lot of progress. Still working on trimming tree limbs, but I'm getting so much more direct sun than last year.

I just noticed that the first Sungold on its first truss is blushing.
What are Tomatillo's like anyways? I have never tasted one

By the way, I inadvertently am growing one of my BigBeefs your way. A few days after planitng him in an Earthtainer, I came across a Beauty King seedling and wanted him in the Tainer. I dug up the Big Beef, but simply couldnt kill the guy so I just threw him in a rather large container and added a bit of soil. He is doing marvelously, and just yesterday I added about 5 inched more mix with some fertilizerr mixed in. I guess he should sprout roots off the newly burried stem

Hey, Brian. I may harvest that Mini Gold tonight. As for the tomatillos, this is my first year growing them.

Regarding "my way", it just seemed logical to me. The larger the root system, usually the better. Start off with a pot that is 2/3's full. The plant sends out roots and grows. Then, topdress with more mix and another shot of food and let it grow some more roots and more stems and leaves. Repeat until the pot is full. It gets you to fertilize on a schedule that is driven by the plant.

So far, so good.

BTW, I'm watching your garden over on GW. Good stuff in your yard, too.
