Blossom Bagging pics
This year I'm trying out a bunch of rare hot peppers from a trade and I used up most of the seed for each variety to get one or two plants in the ground, so I want to be careful about getting uncrossed seed from them.
Here are the different ways I'm bagging blossoms this year: Single blossoms with the little drawstring sachets (2"x3"?), branch tip with tulie bag, and whole plant with Tulie bag, plus tomato bagging with 4"x6" drawstring sachet. I got a little frustrated with needle and thread so I used a stapler on the rolled edges of the tulie fabric. For the drawstring sachets I find it easiest if I soak the new bags in hot/boiling water to remove the stiff sizing starch first, and then turn the bags inside out so the cuff doesn't get in the way when trying to bag little objects close to the plant. I use thin strips of flagging tape to mark bagged fruit. The flagging tape is mainly used for plant name tags. The pepper looking tomato is Green Sausage |
