Default Sweet Bells in pots - high yields are possible...

Perhaps it is the heat we are getting, but the fruit set on the few sweet bells that I am growing in pots is unexpectedly high.

From pics taken today (all planted on May 19 - so we are at day 36)

Orange Bell (my favorite OP sweet bell...been growing this one since getting it via SSE transaction in the mid 1980s)

Tawny Port - new F1 from TGSC

No pics yet, but Islander F1 and World Beater OP also performing similarly.

My pepper pots range from 3-5 gallon. Believe me, I am watering my driveway pots twice per day in this intense heat!

I have 4, 4 gallon buckets with 2 bell peppers in one 5 fruit total.

A bell and a Sweet in another Bell 2, Sweet 8

Jalapeno with 12 fruit with parsley

Sweet Antohi Romanian Pepper 6 fruit with parsley

I had no more garden room anyway so it was 2 to a bucket or throw some away, figured I would see how it went and if I decide I want to try more varieties, then I don't have to worry to much about space.
Potentially 8 different varieties I could try in a season. When I find some I like then I can put them in individual containers.

Craig:

Please let us know what you think of Tawny Port...just read its description. Looks to be very productive!

Also...is the orange bell you have available commercially?

Thanks

The misses plant did great in a pot - its still producing
peppers... After I get done starting 100 seedlings -
She asks me if I grew any Bells ???!!!
We got it "on-sale" at Pathmark for $1.00 !!!
Over the season we got more than 20 peppers from it ~

This thread partially answers my question posed in another thread. And the great productivity shown in the pics deserve to be seen, so I want to bump this thread up so others can see. Maybe it will help others decide if they want to grow peppers in pots.

This year I'm planning on using my 5 & 10 gallon grow bags that have been sitting in my closet for a couple of years with the exception of about 10 bags that had potatoes in two summers ago. Had trouble growing in ground last year and to some extent the season before. Ground needs to be amended. I've wanted to use the growbags for tomatoes/eggplant/peppers anyways so will give it a shot. I want to add many more peppers than I've had previously.
