Yummy Orange

I was looking at some pepper porn..er, um...pictures, and I came across a sweet pepper at chileplants.com called Yummy Orange. The description is as follows:

sweet; 2 to 2.5 inches long by 1 to 1.25 inches wide; medium thick flesh; matures from green to orange; pendant pods; green leaves; 18 to 24 inches tall; Mid Season; Uses: Fresh Salsas, Small Stuffing; this is the sweet pepper found in clamshells in the supermarket that everyone is talking about; extra sweet and practically seedless makes these good for snacking; C.annuum.

Well, we don't have these in clamshells in my grocery store, so I was wondering if anyone else has had a chance to try them. I love finding out about new peppers and I was wondering about their taste. I'm thinking if they're that good after being picked for the grocery store, what would they be like if they were allowed to ripen on a plant?

Anyway, I was just curious.

I've found them at Kroger, as well as Costco. They come in 3 colors in the clamshell, red, yellow and orange. And yes, they are very yummy. I'm always tempted to save seeds, but figure it won't grow true. And there's no name for these guys on any of the packaging. No idea what they are called, so maybe you've found them!

Ok, I'll put them on my "maybe" list. Wish I could find a seed source rather than a live plant, but I usually place an order with Cross Country, so maybe I'll include one this year.

I bought some of these around new year's, too, but these were only orange. No ID on this package either. I thought they might be yummy peppers, and since they're OP, I did save the seeds and only got about seven! Figured it can't hurt to try them...

I found the peppers (red, yellow,& orange) in the clamshell. The orange was the sweetest of the three. I decided to grow the orange from saved seed last year, and they looked identical to the purchased ones. They were so perfect they almost looked fake. I loved the taste--very sweet and crunchy!
