Walter, my house and yard sit on sandstone about a foot below the surface. Thats why I planted the trees near the slope rather than where they terraced the yard. So rather than build raised beds I decided to go the container route where I have more control over what aggregates I use plus amendments. I do have a surrogate garden at work that is a raised bed because the site is built on sandstone as well.
The fence line provides a convenient place to secure my containers and cages plus they catch the sun for most of the day. Ami
