Thinking about growing some beets this fall.
What variety do you prefer and why?

Cylindra...because they are not 'ball' shaped, fairly uniform in diameter (about bratwurst sized, usually, for me), not too thick skinned, hold their color well and make nice, uniform slices. Oh, yeah, they taste pretty good, too.

red ace but i have tried only 2 or 3 varieties. red ace had the best description in various seed catalogs so i went with it. they grow well and taste pretty good.

Don't know if they'll perform for you, but I have always had some Lutz beets in my gardens. They get big, but remain sweet and tender. One beet can make enough for 4-5 servings.

I really love them for beet pickles: because they are so big you have some options in cutting them up in interesting shapes.

I agree. They are the best beet to grow, you can eat them at any size and they are delicious. The greens are really good also, better than chard. I love these beets.

I grow Formanova and Forono for taste (I also prefer the long shape for cooking), and Bull's Blood mostly
for the red leafs (to use in salads).
