zucchini overload

My Golden Zucchini plants have absolutely outdone themselves this year - may be the cooler temps, they seemed to slow down when we had high temps. They outproduce the dark green ones 5 to 1. Anyone know of a good dark green variety that will really produce? I like the variety. Picked seven yesterday and seven today and by tomorrow evening there should be another 10 ready - of golden variety, one maybe of the green. piegirl

I always get the reverse, and my golden zucchini never produce like the green....I purposely try to find greens that don't produce like crazy, but most do in my garden...
Round zukes do really well here too.

I've been growing the variety Spineless Beauty for years and usually get a good yield of nice zuccs. It also has the added benefit of not having all the spines that scratch up your arms.

When you have too much zuccs, running them thru a food processor to shred them and then freeze for later use is good. If you freeze them in a size that your recipe calls for that's even better. Like 2 cups in a baggie for a recipe that calls for 2 cups.

Something else that works good is to make a "fruit" jam from the shredded zuccs. Using aprox 80% zuccs and 20% fruit and a bit of the fruit flavored extract makes a jam that most wouldn't know wasn't all fruit. Saves a lot of money if you have to buy the fruit.

I've never had a glut of zucchini. I use my sunniest garden spots for tomatoes and beans and berries, and let the squashes fend for themselves in the shadier (though still at least 4-5 hours of sun) areas.

One of the most interesting potluck dishes I've had was zucchini spaghetti. I didn't even realize the "noodles" were actually zucchini until the cook mentioned it. She used a special tool called a vegetable spiraler.

Hi - How many zucchini's would you say you get from one plant?

This is my first year growing them and I currently have 4 planted. (2 Romanesco's and 2 Black Beauty's.) But after reading the above posts I think I am going to be in knee deep zucchini overload.........

Just came back to look over the comments. Grey - dozens and dozens from each plant of the yellow. Zukes had never done well for me until a couple years ago, not enough to even share! I now have full sun and they just exploded. One row is in a light bit of shade and was alittle slower starting but then WHAM, BAM zucchini everywhere. It's a good thing since I use tons in my tomato sauce stuff. Maybe back in the '80's there was a recipe for zucchini jam using jello as the flavoring. It wasn't half bad but I never made it again. This is an old post but wanted to say Black Beauty Zucchini is an old and tried dark green that has never disappointed me in the garden.
