Well hooray for the DirecTV box - almost all my pepper seeds have sprouted already - only took 4 days!

Try to keep the soil warmish after you plant them. I noticed they take a longer time to emerge from the soil germinated this way, when the soil was not as warm. I believe peppers really do love hot feet!
And BTW, I am the designated dishwasher (well, rinser) in our house. Miracles never cease! Walter |

I was thinking a small container of peppers would fit right on that directv box. Good thing I don't mind "dirt" in the living room.
Now all the men are gonna tell me they do chores, I'm in trouble |

I think I do the things my wife hates to do and vice-versa. I sure don't do all the chores! Re: the DirectTV box - your method is better than mine, because I haven't had to run the furnace since week before last, so now I am searching for a heat-producing device. My hot water heater isn't really all that hot either. Of course it got to 80 last week so things are getting more appropriate for germinating outside now. Walter |

Well I'd certainly enjoy your weather more than mine!
All of my pepper seeds except one have germinated with the paper towel/baggie method - and I only started them last Wed. So now they're in the dirt (well not really dirt) and happily ensconsed on the DirecTV box. The nursery said instead of metro-mix 360 to buy the 200 - which says Sunshine Professional Growers mix on the bag - they say that's what they start all their seeds in. Hopefully, this was a good choice. Tomatoes soon - but I think I'll just sow them right in the growing mix, except perhaps a few older ones. |

Sunshine makes a quality product. They make all kinds of mixes too.
Just watch your moisture levels, because the lighter stuff dries out faster, which is really what you want to keep diseases away. Rewetting and drying somewhat seems to make for better plant development IMO. |
