Default My First Pink Berkeley Tie-Dye of the Season

Was roaming the garden this morning, and there at the bottom of the plant was a ripe Pink Berkeley Tie-Dye tomato:

This was the largest tomato I've picked to date:

Very juicy too:

VERY tart flavor that will really pucker the lips.

Almost tried it this year but decided to take a pass. I'll be interested to hear how they go later in the year once the plant gets kicking. I am growing Large Barred Boar and Berkeley Tie Dye and like both a lot. Tonight's Large Barred Boar was the clear favorite over an Indian Stripe. Which wasn't the outcome I was expecting. but then it was a rather bland IS.

It looks from the picture like your plant is loaded up too! Ah, good times.

Structure,

I've learned to NEVER draw a firm conclusion after tasting just the first one of the Season. I think the Pink BTD will mellow out a bit as we hit warmer weather. Haven't tried Large Barred Boar yet - - but looking forward to giving it a go next Season.

Raybo you are right about it tasting better later and that seems to be the case with all of the dark tomatoes. BTDP will also set fruit fairly good even when the temps get really high. My Spudakee, IS, Black Krim, and Dana's Dusky Rose that were picked in the spring were alright but the ones I am getting now are delicious. They taste so much better it is hard to believe they are the same varieties.

I'm also growing BTD(pink) and it a fantastic tasting tomato for me this year ,,, the wife says it's all I need to grow next year...lol

very high in both sweet and acid... I was taken by surprise. I have never experienced this much "pow" from a tomato before

Very nice, are you growing two plants per container?

Yes, 2 plants per EarthTainer is perfect, especially with the new rectangular cage system.

BTW, I won't be planting Black & Brown Boar, Pink Boar, and Pink Berkeley Tie-Dye next Season (too many new ones yet to try). I have these in Wild Boar Farms original packs, so if anyone can use them, send me a PM and they will be on their way to you.

Ray,

Do you prune your tomato plants at all?

Nate,

I do, but only around the base of the plant to improve air circulation. Then, later in the Season I top the plants as they attempt to grow over the tops of their cages. Seems to keep them bushier longer through the year.
