Default Squash ID

In March 2011, I obtained some squash seeds at a seed swap. These came from a man who is unknown to me and who I will likely never see again. He said they came from local people of the Copper Mountains in Mexico where he had done some ministry work.

I grew one plant of this variety, which I'm temporarily calling "Copper Mountains Squash". The vine was huge and produced about 8 squash in the 6-10 lb. range. Customers have liked the flavor of this squash. I have yet to even cut one open or taste it, but I'm attaching a couple of pics of the intact fruit along with the one seed I have left from my source.

I am NOT a squash expert by a long shot. I'm guessing it's a cushaw-type (Cucurbita mixta). I've already spent way too much time on the Internet trying to identify this one. A few varieties that seem to have some superficial similarities include:

Mexican Xtop
Silveredge
Thick Margin Silverseed
Campeche

Perhaps this is just an uncontrolled cross of other varieties. But if it is a known and named variety, it would be very satisfying to know what that is.
