Lillian's Yellow and Roma
We love the taste and mouth feel of Lillian's Yellow - the best tasting mistake we've made Roma's are finally starting to turn.....
We reduced 2 gallons of sauced tomato's into about 3/4 of a gallon yesterday. Looks like I'm going to have to buy tomato's to make sauce with if I expect to make it through the winter.

So sorry to hear that your season was cut short by this disease. You had some beautiful tomatoes this year.

That's beautiful- amazing that you still have any fruits a month after LB. My plants are history early this year, too- only have a couple dozen left on the counter but they're not pretty enough for a picture!

Thanks
We can't believe it either....
We pulled and discarded everything in one raised bed except for Matt's Wild who continues to produce. We replanted that bed with green beans and yellow onions, we'll see how well that goes before the first frost. The weather lately makes me think our first frost will be early, I hope I'm wrong. I don't know how the black cherry and sungolds have continued to produce the small numbers that they are producing. They're in pots that are only 5ft or so from the bed that was destroyed with LB. Oddly to me, in another bed there are still 2 Lillians Yellow that look like they are near their end but they keep flowering. There are maybe ten nice sized green toms on them that I hope blush before the cold. Our fingers are crossed...... Lastly, the Garlic Festival in Saugerties, NY is next weekend. We're always excited about that one. We try to get there on opening day at the moment the gates open. We run around with backpacks (literally) and fill them full of garlic before we bolt back to the car to hopefully miss some of of 15,000 people per day that show up. Excluding admission fee, we try to limit ourselves to spending $60 on various garlic varieties and braids. This effort usually gives us enough garlic for the next 9 months. I love some of the red varities.

I've seen Matt's Wild Cherry withstand quite a bit of disease and cold in the past...where there's life, there's hope!
The garlic festival sounds great- I still have to decide what to plant and where to get it. Guess at this point I'll just check out farmers' markets. Do you plant any garlic of your own? |

Things are still coming along here, this has been such a late year for harvesting tomatoes, I still have about 80 tomatoes on the vine (mostly green), not counting cherries and pastes. Luckily no disease to speak of this year except some mild cases of Septoria which appeared in early September! No danger of frost in the near future, actually temps are supposed to rise a bit this week.
This is some of what I picked last week |
