First Blush and Harvest of my PNW Season
Couldn't find a thread for first fruit set, so thought I'd start one ....
http://<br /> <a href="http://xs.to...[/img]</a> Here is a pic of mine. A bit of interesting background here: Tomatovillian got it from Manfred Hahn friend of Reinhard Kraft and it matches the picture on Reinhard's website for Indian Moon (which it is NOT). It is yellow and dwarf. Working name: Manfred's Yellow Dwarf.

D., you got out to take pictures in this rain???
thank God I picked all the ripe tomatoes yesterday after looking at weather forecast - it's been raining here non-stop since yesterday night in Anmore, but the sky starts clearing a bit now - hopefully the sunny weather will return soon I've picked a huge Budenovka (670 gram - 1 lb 7 oz), 2 Robeson Angolans, 2 Grub's Mystery Greens, quite a few Sungolds and Bloody Butchers (about 30), a dozen of Fruhe Liebes and Northern Delights... I think I am in tomato heaven now... but panicking a bit re what do I do with these 7 lbs of tomatoes I picked over the last 2 days... Interestingly, Bloody Butcher looks exactly like Stupice - both plant and fruits, I can't tell them apart. Taste the same too. Will post some pictures once I have time to format them Happy tomato gardening!

Denise - I'd never seen heart-shaped Orange-1 really! Could be crossed or something else.
And also its weight rarely exceed 100 g actually!

Tania, that was indeed an unbelievable cloud burst we had yesterday a.m. I snuck out in between downpours What do you think of Northern Delight – I’ve had seed for a few years now, but it never seems to make the final cut.
Here is a picture of the sliced “Manfred’s Yellow Dwarf”. This one get points for first ripe (although I may have picked a little too early), plant health, and ideal size for container growing. Taste not a highlight, and skin somewhat noticeable. http://<br /> <a href="http://image...[/img]</a> Keith, while I do have my share of morning glory – I double checked – and there is none around this tomato The picture below gives a better look at the foliage. Andrey, the Orange-1 fruits are about 100 g. (4 oz.). I’ve included a ruler in the picture; I must admit they do look like big beefsteaks in my previous photo!! If you look closely, you can see the almost ripe orange one in the middle. http://<br /> <a href="http://image...[/img]</a> Anyhoo, if this is a cross, so far it is a good one – very healthy plants, perfect size for container growing (I’m using a 36 inch tomato tower), and just loaded with perfect fruit – no blemishes, no BER. Now I suppose it is too much to hope the taste will match its other fine attributes, time will tell.

Denise, that's better now, because I was confused with that almost heart-shaped fruit on your first picture.
Orange-1 was always healthy for me as well. Best choice for pots and open ground even in our Zone 4a. Its taste is really good for orange colored tomato and not bland at all.

Here is a pic of the sliced Orange-1; do they call it this because each fruit has only 1 seed
August 3rd – first ripe (GDD: 1094): Mild, pleasant, vaguely sweet; meaty, with little juice (paste?). Texture/taste reminds me of an apricot

I am glad you said it reminded you of an apricot...I have tried so hard to like this tomato...I love the plant, the fruit size, and most things tomato, but I can barely eat these.
I strongly dislike melons and apricots and I swear that is what they taste like....Yuck...The texture is strange too. They are absolutely the prettiest tomato I can't eat! Jeanne |

Yes, it has few seeds and rather meaty and sweet like many other orange colored tomatoes. It has almost the same high amount beta-carotine as Caro Rich, by the way

D., your Orange 1 looks exactly like mine last year (only my fruits had seeds )
Re Northern Delight - I didn't care for the flavor, it is too acidic (not sweet) for me. But what a productivity! - it has more fruits than leaves, that's for sure, and the plant collapsed under fruit weight. Here is my morning harvest (D., I hope you don't mind me posting my pictures here...) Lime Salad Green is very good, when I let it ripen to that olive color. GOlden Dwarf Champion is not bad either. The absolutely the best was Brandy Boy F2 BRB 206 (de-hyb) - sweet, meaty, and beautiful (sorry, no picture ). Bursztyn is very nice, sweet and firm. Yummmm...

Greetings Tania,
Thought I’d responded to this thread, but it appears not. Yes, please do post your pics here, it is almost like a mini PNW forum I must say this has truly been a fabulous tomato year. All tomato varieties have ripened at least one fruit now, save for Grub’s PL Mystery Green (which is still segregating for me – one small red, one with no fruit set (about 10 feet tall), and one that appears to be the real thing !! Had a mini taste testing with a few friends the other day, and Lucky Cross and Russian Black Pear were the straight up favourites, and Extreme Bush was perfect for the Panzanella. To date have made Tomato Citrus Marmalade (with Orange-1), and canned Salsa Bruschetta Style with a nice assortment of varieties. Anyhoo, a few pics from my harvest August 22nd: September 2nd:

I decided to upload my image from this weekends harvest as well. This is a mix of Black Prince, Golden Queen, Sweet 100, Koralik, Homesweet ( F2 Hybrid ), Miracle Sweet ( Hybrid ), Lemon Boy, Black Krim, Nepal, Caspian Pink, Pink Brandywine, Ponderosa & Tigerella. It has been a very good August and September is looking good as well. The cold nights though are really making me depressed as I know the end is now on it's way.
