Dumb question: do I split these individual lettuce seedlings apart when transplanting
1. I'm wondering if I should split these individual lettuce seedlings apart when transplanting them?
2. I plan to put them into a window box style planter, how far should I be planting them apart, generally speaking? |

I would suggest to carefully separate the seedlings and if you want to grow each into a lettuce 'head' then you can space them 1' apart. If you plan to harvest leaves and do not care for the head, then you can plan closer.
I hope the sun continues to come out in Vancouver area. We've had too much rain and cold by now.

So...running out of decent containers....how well are these going to fare....
a) planted so close together in the window planter b) in such small containers? And....is that the proper way to capture runners from a strawberry plant?? I have no clue! In pic '2012-06-09 17.55.00 Strawberry Runners.jpg (4 of 6)' you'll see I buried the leaves of one of the runners right underneath the soil as he wasn't cooperating at all. I "think" maybe some of the others might be forming roots, but I don't want to look too carefully in case I disturb them. Also....included a pic of my new addition, the plant I bought that already had tomatoes on it. With the weather we've had, I don't feel one bit bad cheating! Wow, sunshine!!! Haven't seen it for a while... Looks like you had a beautiful day today In Anmore, we are used to gardening in gloom and rain .
I think your lettuces will do just fine in these containers. And your strawberry runners will work too, very clever setup! Your garden looks so good, and this is despite the weather we had. Great job!
