Ananas D'Amerique A Chair Verte Melon

Has anyone ever grown or tasted this melon? The only place I have been able to find information on it is at Baker Creek Seeds. I think there were four or so positive reviews about it.

I am always looking for new vegetables to grow and this melon interested me so I would be interested in any comments. I have never grown a green fleshed melon before, but I guess all that matters is the taste (not the color).

I've not grown Ananas, but I have grown H'aogen (green fleshed as well) which I've read tastes very similar. It's way beyond "good" - it's kinda like eating from the sugar bowl. So, if the comparisons are apt, Ananas should be worth a try.

Ananas D'Amerique A Chair Verte is simply superb. Like all melons, don't overwater it.

Thanks for the advice! I will definitely be growing Ananas D'Amerique A Chair Verte next year.

I can't wait to taste it.

A second melon I am considering is Healy's Pride. If anyone has experience with it, I would appreciate any insights. As much as I like melons, I figured it would be hard to go wrong with a 12 - 15 pound melon.

For watermelon, I am looking at the Long Moon and Stars by Glenn at Sand Hill. The reviews at Baker Creek were extremely positive and the seed sold out last year in their catalog. I will also be growing Georgia Rattlesnake. If anyone has input on either of these or knows of a better variety to grow, I would be happy to hear your experiences.

Approximately how many pounds does each melon weigh?

Ananas is about 5 pounds.

If you're looking for a LARGE melon, Ginger's Pride can top 20 lbs. A few years ago, I had a cluster of 3 on one vine, 14 lbs each, 42 lbs all ripening at the same time.

How do you store all of your melon? Do you dehydrate it or do something else?

The 42 lbs of Ginger's Pride was a one time thing. I usually harvest one or two "5 pounders" a week in a normal year. Any more, and I give them away. If I ever find I can't give them away, I might cube and freeze them.

im growing orange glo and moons and stars this year.i have had problems in the past with black spots on my melons so im trying to grow on a trellis this year to keep them off the ground away from the 4 legged creatures . they might be to big to trellis but trial and era.anyone else try this in the south?im growing in central texas.

Never grew them, but was sent a free pack
Ananas D'Amerique A Chair Verte
with my order from said Company.
Grew cantaloupes last year but over watered them and they were not very tasty
so mama has forbidden me from growing melons (wasting water), I might try sneaking them in anyway.
