Default transplanting Marigolds deeply?

I need lots of Marigolds to transplant densely in my 8'x4' bed so I started the Marigolds by seed in peat pots. My bed is not ready because I'm waiting to harvest garlics, so I want to transplant my Marigolds to 3" pots. Is it ok to transplant the seedlings deeply like a tomato seedling -- down to the cotyledon?

Yep.....I usually transplant deeper with Marigolds especially when having done a dense planting from seed to begin with. But I don't transplant until I have 2nd set of leaves.....and then I plant them about an inch more below their original soil depth. Seems to work well for me....so far....and that's after many years.

Thank you, Zana! Planting by seeds is so new to me but I did try tomatoes this year, for the first time, using the Nctomatoman's dense method. I'm looking forward to getting these Marigolds in the ground maybe in another month from now.

You're welcome.

When I'm planting marigolds I probably throw about 1000 seeds...yes you read correctly, into the container and spread them out a bit. When grown enough to transplant I scoop out blocks out of the trough and separate them. I'll probably grow a few 1000 at least each year.

You basically can't kill Marigolds. I don't even seed them anymore as I get so many volunteers, I just dig them up and move them around. Even grew in my firepit last year! I love how fast they take off and how huge and cheerful they are! Your bed will look great! Good luck!
