Longan Tree
Going to plant a longan tree for my brother. He wants it to stay semi small without much pruning needed. Is it possible for me to restrict the roots which in turn will restrict the growth?

I am growing a Longan (Dragon Eye) tree. It is only 3 years old and just 3 ft tall. I still have it in a pot and hope it will stay small while giving me some fruit sometime in the far future as it will take over 5 years before it fruits. This plant grew from a pit at a friend's yard. We dugged it out and it survived though several times I didn't think it would make it. It is pretty well extablished now. It's been said that if you want to have a bumper crop, you need to light some fire crackers under it. Don't know if it's true but keep it in mind for the future.

Interesting, the tree he bought is a biew kiew. The trunk size is about the size of a 50 cent coin.
It going to be planted in 3/4th day son against a wall. Hopefully the heat off the wall will help it produce. Apparently firecrackers increase yield because of potassium chlorate. http://horttech.ashspublications.org.../17/3/296.full I would also love some planting instructions and watering instructions. It going to be watered by drip irrigation. Last edited by tqn626; April 28, 2013 at 02:51 PM. |
