I am happy to recently learn that diatomaceous earth is an organic pest control medium for gardening. I used to use it as a filtering medium for aquariums. It is extremely fine, so I would suggest using those face protectors for breathing when dusting plants.

I have also used molasses in the garden to controls fire ants and it works. The principle is that the molasses stimulates the microorganisms in the soil and the microorganisms bother the ants so much that they will move.
