Default Massive sale at Big Lots- fertilizers and chemicals

If you have a Big Lots store near you, run in and check out the sale they have running! Big Lots had a "$20 million dollar garden buyout". All of the items in the buyout are marked with a green and white price tag. All of these items are now 70% off the price on the tag. Every Big Lots has something a little different so it's worth the drive to check out a couple. Yesterday I picked up a few 25 packs of Jiffy peat pellets for $.85, two large glass hummingbird feeders for $3.60, and two 25 foot 8 ply garden hoses for $6 each. Today I ran to another store. I got two gallons of Grow More Seaweed Extract for less than $6 each, a bottle of Bonide Deadbug Brew that hooks onto a garden hose (I'll be using a small spray bottle for emergencies only) for $7.50, and several 4 pound buckets of Jack's Bloom Booster fertilizer for $4.50 each. The store also had tons of granular fertilizers, gloves, watering wands, watering cans, Mancozeb concentrate, weed killer(), plant supports, smaller packs of the Jack's line of fertilizers, etc......

Good luck if you try some bargain hunting!

Check the website before you go to see if your local stores are participating in the "$20 million garden buyout." I happened to visit one that did have a few items, and I got some Dramm breakers (without the wand) for under $3 each. Great price, but that's all I found that I could use -- not much to choose from.

But when I looked up the store I usually go to, I found out they're not participating!

Running two hummingbird feeders is the best way toget good acrobatics and noise. I like to hang them in site of each other. Humingbirds.net has a user generated zip code migration map.

Thanks for posting this! I didn't know that all the stores weren't participating. I'm glad you found something of use.

Thanks for the head's up and the website link -- I checked my ad and didn't think our store was participating, but then I followed the link habitat provided and voila!

Now I just need to actually get there.

... Okay, that was AWESOME.

Six or seven aisles, all gardening stuff. Mostly big and small bags of Jobe's fertilizer, hoses, hose extensions, pots, stuff like that. I picked up two boxes of copper fungicide ($2), some fertilizers, bamboo stakes (gorgeous mahogany color, 3 ft, perfect for dwarfs and micros), landscape fabric, and bags of perlite! 8 qts for .70 is a pretty darn good deal.

I was a little disappointed because quite a few things weren't explicitly marked as part of the sale, or weren't green-tagged, and with only two cashiers on duty and a baby with a fast approaching nap time, I couldn't really fuss around too much with price checks. So I passed on the pots.

I also picked up a couple of Topsy Tomatoes (I want to play with them) for $1 each and a nice quality bulb planter for $2. Thank you so much for letting us know about this sale -- I would never have thought to go in otherwise!

I went about a month ago. Maybe I should try again to see if more stuff has come in.

The cashier said this was the last day? I actually ended up going back for a second run, since the prices were just so good.

I also had prices checked, and at my local store, the pots, garden hoses, and sprayers were not on sale.

I should now be set for copper, fertilizer, and mancozeb FOREVER. Does this stuff go bad? Probably should have wondered that before buying four jars of each.

Thanks again for the link to check if your store is participating -- I wouldn't have gone otherwise.

checkerkitty - thanks for the info about Big Lots' 70% off sale on garden stuff. We went out this afternoon and picked up stuff we thought we'd never need or afford. Well, not any more. We picked up fungicide, biosol, tree wrap, plant staking supports, masks, Jobe's vegetable fertilizer, and plan on visiting a different store tomorrow. It sure is nice having this stuff on hand for next year and not worry about buying it full price!

I'm waiting for their other gardening stuff to be this price!! I need some seeding trays . . . .

Thanks for the heads up on this sale. It was still going on in my local store. I picked up several bags of Jobes organic ferts including blood meal, veggie and tomato. Also picked up a 1 gallon pressure sprayer for less than $3.

Gonna check out another location on my way home tonight.

Gardening stuff wasn't all that was on sale. I got a rechargeable toothbrush for $25 that is $99 at WalMart.

The closest Big Lots to me is in New Jersey. If I were to drive, the tolls alone would negate any savings.

My 2nd store visit of the day yielded yellow sticky traps, neem oil, Jobes compost maker, rooting powder, and 160' rolls of twisty tie with a built in cutter for around $.50 each. I should be set until at least this time next year.

Nothing close to such wonderful finds here in So CA. Went yesterday, only a few things were 50% and it was stuff like garden ornaments. Did not see any ferts, tape, twine...nada, zip, zilch.

Seems like not every store is participating. 2 of the 3 stores I visited yesterday had the 70% off section with ferts and supplies. The 3rd store only had the 50% off junk like you described. I would call around to other stores in the area to see if they have the 70% off stuff.
