Two Men - Two Tomatoes
I picked these tomatoes Saturday morning. The first photo is Limbaugh's Legacy Potato Leaf tomato and the second photo is the Vinson Watts tomato. As I was picking them it struck me that these two tomatoes represent a lifetime of work dedicated to developing a better tomato. I really like the Limbaugh's Legacy. I almost marked it off my grow list for next year as the first ones off the vine were very cat-faced. The later ones as seen in the photo are really pretty and delicious. A rich tomato taste with a nice balance of acid. We had a very cold spring for North Carolina, and I think that caused the early cat-facing. Vinson Watts is still going strong and shows some disease resistance. It reminds me of a German Johnson as far as taste. Very mild and low acid.

Size of Plants
Hi Alfredo,
The Limbaugh's Legacy and the Vinson Watts are both indeterminates. The Limbaugh is about 6 and 1/2 feet tall now and the Vinson Watts is around 6 feet tall. For those that don't know the story of these 2 tomatoes and the 2 men who spent their lives trying to improve them, check out these links: http://blogs.post-gazette.com/index....-fred-limbaugh http://woodridgehomestead.com/2011/0...-watts-my-bff/ Deborah |
