The Most BEAUTIFUL Hydrangea !
Today at Trader Joe's for only $6.99, I bought the most exquisite hydrangea.
The flowers are like white stars with blue centers, and the flowers hang down on WHITE stems. It is stunning ! I can't stop admiring it. I'll plant it in a blue ceramic pot. Does anyone have this one? How do I keep it from turning pink? I'll Google of course but I'd love your personal experiences. What a marvelous find !!! |

What is it called?
I love hydrangeas and have planted three of them. More acid means blue and less means pink. I have purchased them from the big box store and they seem to be doing great in the mush they are growing in. They all seen to be turning from pink to blue. What I got was Blue Heaven, Twist and Shout and a bi color called Peppermint. Even in 104 heat there is no wilting and they are in the shade. Worth |

I have several varieties but Limelight is my favorite. It blooms much longer than any of the pink/purple/blues I have.

I Googled and learned that they need ammonium sulphate to stay blue and white. I treated it but the flowers all turned green. So I trimmed off the flowers and will double dose.
It's called a Shooting Star hydrangea. |

That's why I like the Limelight--green flowers.

I have some in full sun and some in full shade and they are both the same shade of green. From a distance, they appear to be white but when you get up close, you can see the green. They get no water other than rain and do great. It is normally in the 90's here June-September, when they bloom, and I haven't had any problems with them. They are more heat tolerant than my others (Paris, Vienna, Berlin, Venice) and although they start blooming later, they do bloom longer. Over the winter, the dried flowers on the bushes are very pretty, as well. I highly recommend them.

I wouldn't want to do any roof work on that house! Nice plants though...looks like it might be a cooler climate there since they are all out in the open.
Hydrangea is my wife's favorite flower. We have lots. They do like to droop when it gets hot. She has dried hydrangea bouquets all over the house.

Mine's in a blue ceramic pot in the shade, on the porch. Very healthy, green and lots of new leaves.
I learned online not to prune as they flower on old wood. The flowers are on a long white stem, the flowers hang down like fuschias, and are double flowered stars with blue centers. These are usually sold at holiday time with poinsettias, so I was thrilled to see it at Trader Joe's. |

Oddly, all our hydrangeas do better (get more blooms) when they are put into pots rather than in the ground.

That's good news ! Maybe they like being pot bound, like geraniums.
