better boy tomatoes not turning color real fast

Hi. I am growing better boy tomatoes in containers. I live in fredericksburg, va. Some of my tomatoes are turning but some are not. Also, some of my tomatoes are getting a little black on top of the tomato but it is not like blossom end rot. Could this be because of the weather or lack of fertilization or uneven watering or they just need more time to ripen? Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.

G...I do not know if your maters need more time. They can get pretty good -sized. Keep waiting if they are growing and healthy. My Better Boy has some pretty nice fruit...but my leaves are mostly rolled and stressed out. Not sure why this one was affected so much. I hear the BB is one of the better hybrids. I believe that. goodluck

thanks for the info ed of somis. My tomatoes are gradually starting to turn color and I think the cooler weather in my area this will help too. Also, the past two weeks I have been giving my plants a dose of liquid bonnie plant food that you mix with water.

Yes, container tomatoes need frequent feeding. I like the convenience of the liquid ferts. Have fun!

Lack of fertilizer or water can lead to slow ripening, indeed.
Also, tomatoes with good shelf life often will have a slower ripening.
