Bacteria predominate in a high pH soil.
Fungus like acid. Mycorhizae are fungi, so I'm not sure they apply here in Ilex's soil. And at a ph of 8 or better I wonder if there would be any at all? i get your point though, microbial activity. |

The only vegetables that have problems are in the bean family. Some pea varieties do look very yellow and grow badly. Others grow well. About half of beans either don't sprout or just die suddenly. I think it's mostly some kind of fungus present.
There are a couple things that dont like the clay. I feel my clay has a bigger impact than ph. We used to sell clay for the tile industry, so soils can get quite heavy. |
