Phoenix in the Springtime

Well it's still spring, the weather has warmed up to about 90 or so, and the garden is looking good.. just thought I'd share a few pics.


....THIS is why I love Reisentraube.. there must be 100 buds on this cluster!


...The strawberry plants are finally cranking out the berries!


...Ate THIS guy's brother for dinner lastnight. This one will be tomorrow's veggie course. About 8" across


..this is one of my 2 currently growing Sleazy-A F2 dwarf seedlings.. This one is doing the best.


..and here's one of the Sleazy-A F2 Indeterminate seedlings.. although the internodes seem quite close.. does it look like a semi-dwarf at all?

Great pics. I am just waiting for the day when the weather here will be warm enough to plant everything outside. Seeing everyone's pictures give me a glimmer of hope that we too will have great plants like yours in the near future!

I have several of those too that I'm planning to grow out. Short indeterminate looking RL plants. It'll be interesting to see what turns up. All I need now is some of that AZ heat.

Any idea what type of strawberries you are growing?

I have some everbearing Eversweet strawberries that I quite like and this week just planted some Junebearing Hood.

Hoping that the junebearing will give me a nice spring batch of strawberries as the everbearing seem to produce small amounts over the whole summer.

I dont know how you managed to find some seed of reisentraube that actually produce huge clusters of buds like that- I have tried them from four different scources and never found one that produces anything other than standard size trusses yet.

If I remember correctly, my Reisentraube seeds are from Totally Tomatoes. I knew it was supposed to be pretty large clusters of tomatoes, but I wasn't expecting THAT MANY the first time I grew it.

I'll definitely save some seed from this.. do you want me to send some?

Sorry Mike.. I totally spaced about your question regarding the strawberries.. I actually put those in the raised bed back in August or September, and I've lost the tags. I can't say for sure, but if memory serves, I think they're either Sequoia or Quinault.. but don't quote me

I really need to put a new pic of that Reisentraube cluster up.. it's AMAZING how big it's getting!

If you check out my Houston Strawberries thread, that is EXACTLY what I am thinking of doing. Instead of treating Quinault as everbearing by planting them in spring and being constantly disappointed with small, malformed fruit, I am going to plant them in September and treat them as Junebearing and get a huge crop in April and probably mow the plants down to the ground after that.

There's already about 10 fruit set so far.. and I'm thinking that most of these will set
