Daily Pickin
Minus the canteloupe, a typical daily harvest in the early goings. I also got tons of peppers, but do not harvest and use str8 off the vine. Also smoked some chicken yesterday in the torrential heat. Took a drive yesterday down to the community G to check things out, and it looks aweful, this is about 15 acres of garden space with 100's of plots (think like 200$ a year, w/ *free* water). You always know there is a mix at the community with a fair share of idiots, but I know a couple of peeps that garden down there and consider them "master" gardens with decades of experience, and their tomatoes (as well as all others) were totally destroyed. I can't recall worse in 20 years. They have even done a segment on the news about the blight. Some people grow commercially for local restrurants and have 200 plants, every one of them is a goner and dying on the vine. So I guess I feel better about the state of my maters, the raised beds save the day once again. Everyone who planted in the ground got trounced. The best looking crop so far is Okra with the intense heat, plants are starting to look like trees.

Tip: Those plastic drink trays they stack at convienent stores make a great basket. But don't ever let someone take one for give aways, you will never see it again.
Also smoked some semi-fresh corn (not pictured). I did not grow corn this year, so from the local grocery. These tomatoes are the last of the early set that suffered whacky weather and have some scar tissue. The tomatoes from here in, are looking more like a movie star. We shall see. I need to go jump on the mower before it gets TOOOO HOT!! Yesterday i tried not to move, was drinking an ice cold beer in front of a BAF (big *** fan), listening to some light jazz - sweating my "b's" off. I simply can't handle the high heat anymore and suffer leg cramps if i exert myself regardless of how much water/g-aide/?? I drink. Couldn't imagine living in the south w/o air conditioning. Def. time to find a good water hole. Last edited by My Foot Smells; July 3, 2016 at 09:27 AM. |

It looks good and I like the BBQ smoker.
As for the heat I have been in my garage all day every day in the heat but I insulted it years ago. If I dont open the big door it stays more or less cool around 80 to 85 or so if it is hot outside. Hint for anyone having a house built. Insulate your garage. Worth |

It is around 100 degrees here during the day and 80 outside around 4 in the morning.
If someone paid me to build a BBQ pit I would build the darn thing before they paid me. If I didn't know them to be trustworthy I would ask for the cost of materials first. I wont pay anyone 100% till the job is completed 100% and I expect the same in return. Worth |

He was looking for work after opec shut down texas. literally came to work one day and the doors were locked. not a job in site. went from six figure, to low five with two kids. it's been a rough transition, so i'm not really too concerned. i remember when ok city went bust years ago. most have capped the wells, but could be a while before the good ole' days return. hard times suck........
