I do understand about family and friends who do not like hot peppers in any way. |

If you don't protect your seeds from crossing, some interspecies crosses may result in seeds that aren't viable, probably.
I save my seeds from peppers that have ripened to their final color (or at least begun changing). I've also noticed how running water on hot pepper seeds can make you cough. |

I just take pepper seeds out of the pod and air dry them.
Freshly save pepper seeds germinate almost 100%. I save some seeds (in the placenta )from store bought mini peppers early January and sowed them on Jan 19. Every single one germinated where as half of my old seeds failed.
