Well, the traps were reset. If I have learned anything from Country Life. For every mouse you kill, theres about 10 others to take his/her place..
See what the morning holds. |

Dwarf sunflowers. I plant a couple seeds in the four corner cells of every tray.
It is a higher value treat for mice. Diversion tactic. As soon as I see a nibbled sunflower, I set a couple traps. Not lost a pepper or tom yet... Just put up a fresh sticky trap so I can monitor tiny pests. |

My mice seem to prefer the sunflower shoots....the smaller sprouts.
Once the sunflowers are up and established, 3-4 weeks, they are aphid magnets. Sturdy little plants can take a sink or hose sprayer. (I need to set a few traps in the garage where, no doubt, they will be visiting seedlings soon) |

Well, no victims to be found this morning. I still plan to keep setting the traps for now.

Well Houston, we have a problem.
Ants found my Peanut Butter laced traps. My first attempt at remedy was to hose down the area the traps was, flooding the area to hopefully make the Ants rethink living there. I throughly washed out the traps, and reloaded. No luck. Ants were back at it, cleaning the traps out. Last night I switched out to Parmesan and Feta Cheese. Guess what, all the Cheese was gone this morning, except for one trap that had a few crumbs, and the Ants were working on that. Now Im thinking some Grains of some kind? Oatmeal? Sunflower Seeds? Anything Ants wont eat? |

Mix some of that Mule Team borax into the peanut butter. The ants may still eat it for a couple of nights, and then they'll be done.

Thanks for the suggestions. Earlier today I baited the traps with Sunflower Seeds. After a couple hours I checked in on them. A few ants were wondering around, and 1 or 2 were actually on the traps, but they werent bothering the seeds at all.
This might be a solution. |
