I live in gopher country and use the Macabee gopher traps. Using a probe, tap the ground with the probe to find the tunnel, dig it up and set a trap in both directions, do not fill in the hole with dirt until you are done trapping. Typically there will only be one gopher per tunnel system.

I have used the gas bombs with very little success rate.
