Don't know about you, but I've had tremendous success with a very weak mixture of fish emulsion fertilizer and water.

Not all growers subscribe to the use of emulsion. But I've grown some very nice and productive plants using this type of weak application.

At transplant, the wife and I put a good coating of Osmocote fertilzer pellets in the hole, then plant. Feeds those roots all summer long.

In my neck of the woods, fertilization is NOT the problem. However, BLIGHT is! And pesticide drift. Our home is right across the street from acre upon acre upon acre of open fields used for rice and alfalfa production. We're so close, I can see those treatment planes diving in to spread whatever they are applicating on that particular day. It doesn't take much in the way of a breeze for that stuff to drift over and coat my tomato plants.

Just be happy you don’t live next to a cotton field where they spray defoliant.
Some of these guys use roundup by the ton.
I don’t have a field next to me but I know some folks that do.

GERMINATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have GERMINATION!!!!

First to pop was the Burpee Hybrid II cucumber -- less than 48 hours.

BUT -- less than three days later -- at least six varieties of heirloom tomatoes have popped!

The little setup is working....
