Raymondo, mate checked out so many chicory varieties that i dont think it is chicory...
Larry i thought we may have struck gold there for a wee while

, but after close sussing i think the closoest match was the wild aguru which i think is more a rocket plant variety than the one in my photos..
even did a google search but no luck and am more persistant in my search now!!..

I'm still going for a chicorium cultivar. certainly if I see the red coloured stripes on the main vein.Cichorium has some red cultivars, for instance a few Italian 'radicchio' cultivars.The upper leaf has a very peculiar shape though, but maybe this is the result of a particular selection throughout the years. The flowering will tell a lot more,

This kept intruiging me, so I did some other searches, and I believe it could be this one:

lactuca is the lettuce family, taraxacifolia means there is a ressemblance between this lettuce relative and taraxacum, and that is the latin name for dandelion,

Sure is a bit of a resemblence so far..Actually closest ive see to date..
Ran into an old mate who did grow them once upon a long time ago and he reckons they are an Asian plant. But i think thats inly due to his neighbour that gave him the seeds to start off with being an Asian lol..
Anyhows i got a bit of a fright because the top most leaves started going all thin and dwindly looking thinking it was due to all the rain weve been getting but!!!twas due to the plants starting to "SEED"

...
What ive been waiting for and hope the process dont take too long cause i need the space for this winter Tomato plantout8) ...

You know even though they do resemble the wild lettuce or taraxacifolia there's still a fair difference between the two far as the pics ive shown and what ive managed to scramble through doing google searches re the wild lettuce..
