Remy,

Here are a few photos from your "backyard" just down the road. They were taken by my nephew who was on R&R from camp Falcon in Iraq a few weeks ago. He really has a talent for photography and I am encouraging him to go to RIT when he exits the Army to study photography professionally.

Beautiful Ray! Niagara Falls in winter is a sight to see. It is also easier to see, not as many tourists. With fresh snow and ice, plus the lights, it is gorgeous.
RIT is a very good school, as you know. My cousin's daughter graduated from there recently and joined the Army as an officer. Her father is a an officer in the army corps of engineers. So daughter like father!

The Blizzard of 77... my SIL's brats kept bugging their parents to buy a couple of those new fangled snowmobiles. Their father felt that they were an unnecessary expense on the farm, but he caved in a weak moment and bought them. They turned out to be a blessing. Their sideroad never got plowed out for 2 weeks following the blizzard and the sleds were how they got to the store to buy bread and milk.
On the other hand, I was one of two people to make it to work and got free pizza and beer for lunch for braving the elements.

What a gorgeous entrance way Remy, both in full bloom and at rest. Thanks for sharing it.

bluelace,

Sounds like you got stuck in S. Ontario during the '77 Blizzard. There were about 400 of us stuck at the company (Graphic Controls) in downtown Buffalo on Seneca St. We were relatively lucky as we had a cafeteria that was able to cook basic food, etc.

The second night, someone had organized music and a bit of a dinner / dance "event". When some of the folks called their stranded spouses at home, with the music and partying in the background, some difficult explanations were hastily made. Some interesting "relationships" developed out of that event (I'll never tell.....).

This winter has been so crummy, it is reminding me of those years when winter was long and snowy!
Have you all see the video on YouTube?

Penny,
You're welcome!

Bluelacedredhead,
Thanks.
Your right across the river!
I think everyone who had a snowmobile was very happy back then, and others were happy people had them. Remember how people who owned them volunteered for emergency services like delivering medications to people.
The two sights I remember most were opening the door after the wind subsided to see a wall of snow, and the one neighbor's house that a two story snowdrift attached to it. We had fun sledding off it for days!

Thanks! Gary built it. It was one thing he did right. He actually had a friend come over, and he rented one of those post hole drills and everything. I think he knew I would get mad if it wasn't done correctly. The inside of the house is a disaster, but he knows I care about outside! Oh, same with the flag pole out front that he insisted on getting. I told him if he rushed it, and it wasn't level, I would personally rip it out.
It would be nice if you could come in mid-late June when the roses are blooming!! Maybe you, Brenda, etc. could come?

I'm trying to get Scott to build an arbor for me in the backyard for a new garden I'm working on. Hopefully he does half as good as Gary does! And mid-late June would be great! Maybe we can work out details at the plant swap. Didn't mean to just invite myself, but I'm always looking for garden tours! Totally OT, but are you heading out the the daylily farm this spring?

I'm sure Scott will do an excellent job. If Gary can do it, I know he can.
Don't worry about inviting yourself! I want you to come. I would love to have you in June, because it always seems people stop by my house in August when it isn't it's best. By the time I get done watering the tomatoes and all the pots, I'm not watering flower beds. In August I always feel like I'm saying well a month ago this flower was in full bloom, etc. I can get any day off I want now so we can figure when ever later on.
The daylily farm is open in July. I know Hilde wants to go again too. She was looking at their web site while she was in Norway. I've created a monster. So we are definitely going. You are going to love it!

Yay! I can't wait for both! I think Nan will want to come to the daylily farm too (remember her from the plant swap last year?).

Tara,
Sorry it took so long to respond. I just got back from visiting my father in Florida. It was very warm there! Anyway, I know I talked to Nan since one of my best friends from college has the same name. It would be great if she came along too!

Penny,
You know you're always welcome to make a road trip for the daylily farm, or the tomato party, or any other plans we might hatch.
