Big_Red,
I see you have 2 tomatoes in each box. Have you done this before with success? I just have one in each...I'm wondering if you can put 2 Mor Lift or some other monsters together in a EB without over crowding them....First year with EB's here. squibT |

Squib,
EB say to use two tomato plants per EB. You can google for their pages. Big Red, Is that black plastic you are using? Is this first year using the black plastic? I bought the covers that go with EB from nursery and with 9 boxes they add up. I haven't found them at a hardware chain. This is my first year really playing with these. I tried before without success. This time I put in my potting mix, watered mix, then put in plants and forgot all about covers which never got put on. Now I probably need to cover them to keep heat in. I was told to buy some tomato food by Miracle Grow, organic, without fertilizer, in box so need to hunt that down. I want to have hubby build a set up for the rollers that they sell. I plan on growing tomatoes all year round in my sunroom using grow light tubes I am checking into. I am clueless on the bulbs--kind, where best place to order, watts, etc.....I'm all about veggies.... I also have cukes and peppers growing in the other EB per EB recommendations on how many per box. My tomatoes are under attack by aphids. 1,750 ladybugs released into garden per instructions in cool, with watered down plants, and today about 6 only showing their presence. Now I'm going to just spray with water. Soapy water didn't help so going back to basics. Thanks. carolg z5 colorado |

Earl, I like your carrot experiment. Maybe I'll do that next year, or maybe even after the heat of the summer. I have some early baby carrot seeds I could try.

Funny....my DIY EB tomatoes are out growing the tomatoes that were three times the size and planted out way way earlier...cant wait to see the difference. Got some 15 gal planters to compete with the EB's and the old 5 gal planters that I will prolly phase out.

Here are some pics from Nanaimo....just started to get some sun here...
Some more pics... The "mystery toms" found in my flowers came about by planting a whole whack of seeds, flowers and toms. I used sticks with disappearing ink for the name tags. Mystery toms could be Sweet 100, Roma, or Christmas Grape. My name is Tim. I am a tomato addict. I cannot stop buying tomato plants. I cannot refuse a gifted tomato plant. I cannot kill a tomato plant. See: http://s182.photobucket.com/albums/x...t/July-6-2007/ for names and stuff... squibT |

Sorry for the flubup, that should have read, 'Chinese celery and Russian Banana potatoes.'
Carol, yes to the Chinese celery. One EB produces enough for several families. Still waiting to see how the carrots do.

Combo note to Tim and then Earl
Tim, Very nice as I was to your entire garden via photobucket links. You drilled holes in all containers or did some have holes on bottom. The blue one has a tube sticking out of it's side. What's up with that? One pot has a large hole on its side but no tube. So you didn't use any EB, but made own? Impressive brother Tim. -- Earl, I just bought 3 large organic stalks of celery yesterday. I eat with hubby tons of veggies. Does that really feed families and do you freeze it???? == Thanks Tim and Earl for sharing your secrets and pictures. carolg co z5 |
