Hi JayPaul1024,
Black from Tula matched Black Krim for me.Considering taste I didn't recognise any difference.I'll grow it as an alternative to Black Krim.It has bigger tomatoes at all! |

Today I harvested 2 Wapsinipicon Peach tomatoes. They look like sweet fruits out of tomato world! There are tiny hairs on skin, weird but harmless when you touch.

Levent,
Thank you so much for sharing your garden here, I have enjoyed seeing your posts... What did the Wapsinipicon Peach tomatoes taste like? They look so unusual with all the lumps and tiny hair !! JB |

Hi baileyj,
Although looking spectacular they had a common tomato taste! I was expecting a sweet fruity tone but confronted with a rather tart one.Frustration a bit! |

Solanum abutiloides
Solanum abutiloides (Dwarf Tamarillo)
I had started my Dwarf Tamarillo plants last winter under lights (neverthless to mention in diatomite!) I transferred one plantlet to a 6 lt pot which contained soil mix the other to a 4 lt subirrigation pot which had diatomite as medium. Both plants were placed side by side to a south facing porch.Once every 3-4 waterings I applied nutrient solution (6-6-6+ME in late season 20-20-20+ME )Both plants flowered and started to set fruits in August.Ripe fruits when eaten cold taste sweet at the begining and have a rather bitter aftertaste.Yummie to me afterall! I plan to overwinter Dwarf Tamarillos for an earlier crop in 2013. |

It's getting cool day by day.Time for fresh greens!I've sown Lepidium sativum seeds in subirrigation planter containing diatomite as medium.High percentage of seeds sprouted in 4-6 days.First set of regular leaves started to appear therefore I applied fertilizer (20-20-20 + ME) for the first time today.Roots are shallow for the present so I prefer to topwater the seedlings.

Marsha thank you for passing by.
Growing plants in diatomite is fun for me.Here is another example, Parsley in subirrigation planter. They were decorative and consumable! |

Fall tomatoes
I rooted 2 cuttings in water in late July and planted them in ground in August. They have grown faster than seed started ones that I tried in season. There are 13 tomatoes on plants at the moment! It's still over 20C here. Thanks to warm weather they started to get coloured. |

I had planted a leftover seedling to a 15 lt pot in spring.I harvested only 2 tomatoes throughout the season.Although being a low yield plant due to smaller pot size, I kept it for fun. It's still over 15C here. Thanks to mild climate, there's another ripened tomato on plant!Late fall fun!
