I haven't tasted the lemon cucumber yet but it looks like I'm just a few days away. Yesterday we were 115 degrees, today 110. I am so impressed by the heat tolerance of this cucumber. It actually grew overnight, putting on blossoms and appears to have even gotten some fruits pollinated.
Seems to be even stronger than the Armenian cucumber in the heat.

My three for the year are Poona Keera (which the deer slightly pruned...but it is coming back), Diva (our favorite hands down!), and a new one from Johnny's, Salt and Pepper. Our harvest is just beginning.

I'm trying cukes for the first time this year-Horace Boyette Burpless. One plant is considerably smaller due to being nibbled on by some critter in its young life. Hope it catches up.

Where do you buy seeds for Sweet Success and Diva? Also, recommendations on a good pickling cuke that is very productive? I got zero production from my spring crop. Pollination and disease isnt a big issue. I seem to have plenty of pollinators for my armenian cuke and its dry enough diseases arent an issue. So far this year, Ive managed to avoid squash and cucumber bugs. I got a few juveniles but they disappeared with a dusting of diatomaceous earth. My regular cucmber vines still look healthy but just male flowers, no females. I gave them a spot with some afternoon shade but I think it delayed them until it was too hot.
I can plant fall cukes in August, which I think is better in AZ, anyway. Good germination but cooler weather during the productive period.

Pinetree Garden Seeds sells both of them, as does Reimers, Park, Swallowtail Garden, Harris and others.

I really liked County Fair as a pickler. Even though what I grew this year was not true, it still produced very well. Enough to make plenty of pickles for my family and friends. I will probably switch to Cool Breeze next year since the County Fair dont seem to be stable for whatever reason. Cool Breeze is quite a bit more spiney than CF
Both are parthenocarpic like Diva

I thought County Fair was a hybrid.

It is a hybrid that was the result of a very complicated cross-breeding program.
The suppliers failed to keep the seed line pure and have been
unable to reproduce it exactly.

That is what I read anyway and believe it to be true based on the change in the fruit over the past couple of years

That's really unfortunate since there seem to be a lot of people who really loved this one.

The spacemaster's i grew contaminated the rest of my cucumbers with powdery mildew so there's no way i'm going to grow them again.

has anybody else had problems wiyj downy mildew on thier cukes my plants were doing beautiful until 10 days ago now they are all being wiped out... some even before they have yielded.. does anybody know a remedy for ths disease its too late for this year but i would like to know for 2013
