Oh, Wendy, you have become the Potato Whisperer! Those pulls look lovely. I'm hankering for spring pretty bad right now and those pics of yours are making it worse. I need to get downstairs to my seed-starting area and plant... something... anything.

Oh the warmth...almost feel the sun! You and your Lovely New Zealand, you don't even have a proper winter! not fair.
Here the bitter cold is setting in now. oh well...looking forward for more sunny pictures from your potato patch.

Hey Owie, how did it go with your taters? TPS? Please updates with pictures please.

I does look like I've have become good at this pulling plant business right? but I don't have much space to put them as they grow so all shall go in the same pot to produce minitubers.

I have been trying to search for information on the internet about moie-moie, and I have a few questions (does anyone know the answers?).

At koanga.org.nz, there is a potato called maori. It has blue/purple skin and white flesh. Is this the same as moie-moie?

Secondly, in this thread there is a mention of three different moie-moie potatoes. It appears the only difference is related to color; one is blue, one is maroon and one is pinkish. Is my understanding of this correct?

Thanks!

There has been much confusion over the years here in New Zealand around the correct naming of many of the Maori potates,many people may call 'maori' as moie moie but its shape and colour sets it apart from from the moiemoie,though it does look some what similar, as you saw below Cesarz sent me some Moie moie which he says are slightly different in colourings to the strain i have so it will be interesting to see if there are other differences besides just colour

Meh. Not such a great year here for potatoes. It rained & rained & rained with the garden turned into a swimming pool for weeks that made it difficult to keep up with hilling & weeding. Then a little drought for the second half of the season. Next year, I'm going to try growing TPS in pots and stick with the more vigorously-growing tubers & pulls in the main garden.

Where would you put mini-tubers in my plan? I've never messed with them but would like to this coming year. Are they hardier like pulls or more delicate like TPS seedlings? (Editing to add: I mean as far as planting the mini-tubers to grow out, not producing mini-tubers themselves.)

Owiebrian,

Try the miniubers as regular seed potatoes, I am leaving the pull plants in pots to avoid transplant shock.

Thanks, Wendy. I'll go ahead and give them a spot out in the main garden this year then. December means it's time to get all crazy with the graph paper planning of the 2010 season!

Update: Four pulls from Moie-Moie and one from Mystery. The sliver of potato has not produced any more in about 1 month now so I think that is all I am getting. So far so good a picture is in order (soon)

@Wingnut
Hi Doug what do you mean by tuberizing? I have my pulls under light (12hrs) is there a way to trick them to tuberize sooner? Thanks!
