You have to soak the meat in water dump it a few times to get the salt back out. Then I simmered it and drew more sat out before I put it on the pit. To do ribs you will have to over haul the salt and water about twice. You will see them in a big pool of blood and moisture. Drain all of this rinse and re-salt. Worth |

The ultimate tomato knife.
In the lefty thread Beth mentioned the serrated knives had the serration on the wrong side. I said I could make a serrated knife with serrations on both sides that would slice a tomato like no ones business. Now I have a ton of knives and my brother gave me some cheap ones a few years ago for what reason I have no idea. I can sharpen a knife razor sharp with old school stones. But here is what I did this morning with a cheap knife. Something you can hand to company because you dont want them to ruin your good carbon steel knives. It is 30 lines per inch. This is why I dont buy salsa, This is just too easy.
One can diced tomatoes and chilies one pint of my home canned not pickled jalapenos. One half onion chopped cilantro chili arbol sea salt and lime juice. This is a traditional Mexican recipe. Worth IMG_20150910_8475.jpg |

I got another box from work the other day. It had my Norton India Bench stone in it along with my old stone I have had that I bought in 1979 in Mason Texas at a hardware store on the town square. And my Zippo lighter I have had for maybe 30 years. Worth |

At work they banned knives. I told them they could kiss my butt and they should go home and toss their guns in the river. Not one time did they ever say anything about my knife after that. |

When our children were young, The first thing I taught them was that a dull knife or tool is the one that will get you hurt. Then, I taught them how sharpen knives, axes, and tools using the two-sided stone that they sell at the dollar stores now. That is the whetstone my grandfather taught me how to use when I was a child. We are all into fishing, so of course, I had to show them how to use a hook sharpening stone.
Along the way, I explained how the Arkansas Whetstones work and the edge you can get. It takes effort that builds pride. I also showed them how to use a grinder on an axe that wouldn't hold an edge otherwise. I showed them that a sharp axe will bring a tree down much faster than an average chainsaw. That junky axe still brings trees down faster than my brother's Pouland chainsaw. Sharpening is a life-skill. Maybe not so much in the city, but for the rest of us - it matters. |

It's junk vs junk, then. I've owned Poulan chainsaws before, unfortunately. Most chain saws are built for homeowners who have a fallen tree and will use it once. That's how long they are made to last. Axes are much cooler than crappy chain saws: https://www.pinterest.com/kdt2231/axes/ |
