Default Canon SX10 1S - with a 20X optical (80X digital) zoom!

Flipping my kayak last week did in my Canon S3 1S. But it was time for an upgrade anyway (how's that for rationalizing) - I ended up with the SX10 1S - and finally got a chance to play with it a bit (it's been raining every day since it came in...finally the sun today).

Can't wait to do some nature photography with this, but just to show the zoom - our cherry tree just started blooming. The first pic is normal standing on my deck looking up at the tip of the tree - the next with the 20X zoom. The next pair - we have a Bradford Pear in our azalea garden - this is from my front porch - normal and zoomed. I think I went into a bit of digital zoom, since it is a bit grainy - but this is hand held on an overcast day!)

If you are looking for a non-SLR camera, this is a great one - and very reasonably priced for the features!

Nice! That 10 MP will let you blow the pics way up if you want to. 20X digital zoom is outstanding. Very nice choice!. I have my little point and click Cannon. It takes great pics in Caves. My daughter has Kodack that I borrow for all the nature shots, hers is only 10X Optical but with 20X you will really be able to focus in on objects! Hope you have a lightweight tripod!Expect to see alot of pics now.

PS would still recommend a waterproof camera for Kayaking

Yes, I do have a tripod. Haven't tested the macro or super macro modes yet. Digital photography is just a remarkable advance....allows you to see the world in a whole new way!

I was going through a drawer and actually found a ton of film I have not gotten developed. I am thinking that it might be as old as 10 years or more. I would have more if digital had not come around!
