Spring at last
It is finally starting to feel like spring on Vancouver Island.
We never get tired of watching the humming birds. We normally have them here the last week of February or by March 1. This year they did not arrive until April 1. They've been very busy ever since. You can't tell by the pictures but there is about 60 that swarm the feeders at night just before sun down. The weather is starting behave so we can get the flower beds cleaned up and ready. The veggie garden is ready just waiting for some warmth. Hill60 |

Hill, nice pictures. Don't have hummingbirds here in Germany even though we have a moth called by the same name and they look very similar. What kind of camera did you take the pictures with and at what shutter speed. Ami

Oh, I miss hummingbirds. When we lived in Tucson, we had some that lived in the trees behind our house. I haven't seen one in northern Virginia since I was a teenager (millions of years ago).
Are those purple flowers anemones? Those are beautiful. We had our first really warm day of spring today here. About time. Great pictures, especially the way we can see the birds' wings. What kind of hummingbirds are they? Christine |

I can't take credit for the pictures of the humming birds DH took them for me. He was standing on the arm of the couch taking it through our front window. Taking it through the glass you can't really see the shine of the red throats or the green on their backs. The camera is a Pentax S200 lens DA 18-55 mm shutter speed 1/60. Christine we haven't had much in the way of warm days either. That flower is a Pasque Flower. Just to the side of that one is a burgundy red one that looks very sad and droopy from the frost we are still getting. Hill60 Last edited by hill60; April 25, 2009 at 01:09 AM.
