Default Tomato friends

Hope you enjoy these pics. My new mater patch is located near my very active bluebird box. I snuck and planted 6 tomatoes this past weekend and the bluebirds sure are enjoying the cages.

A robin built a nest in my sweet autumn clematis right by the front door. The eggs have hatched and everytime I open the door, the babies open their mouths to eat

I try each year to encourage the robins to build nests near my tomato plants. They'll chase off cats, squirrels, and anything else they don't like around.

Nice pics. That bluebird sure is a strong color. The ones I get here are a little more subdued.

It was overcast and the background is pretty blah LoL
I'm sure that makes him stand out better. Or you may be seeing the female, which is more of a gray blue.

Barbee, I think you're right about the light. I do get to enjoy those blue "buddies" coming thru occasionally ever since I added a feeder for the bug eaters.

Years ago I had at one time in my feeders a blue bird "herd". Blue Grosbeaks, Indigo Buntings, Bluebirds, Bluejay, and Scrub Jay - all at the same moment.

I do love my "Buddies".

Nice photos, Barbee. That's a big mouth on that little robin!

I love my birds too. Last year I bought what turned out to be a pretty ineffectual soaker hose. It tended to shoot water up into the air several inches. But the birds came and would walk through it and try to take baths. I set a pyrex pie plate out under one of the sprays, and it gradually filled up, and they loved that. Or at least, they loved it while they had young. My mother said they were taking the kids to the pool.

I had families of robins, goldfinches, cowbirds, and sparrows. Most of them would wait politely when there were others in the water -- or drive them away -- but the sparrows didn't care. They'd hop in anytime, with anyone. Once there were five sparrows in that little dish, all splashing merrily away.

We never have bluebirds, which is a shame. Too many people around here for them.
