purple leaved sweet pepper

I was looking at a few pics in the research threads above and began to wonder if there are any purple leaved sweet peppers? I assume, and we all know what that does, that the purple leaf is a trait of the hot pepper only? Would it be possible to breed a sweet pepper and a purple leaved hot pepper and get a purple leaf sweet pepper? Or even a not so hot pepper with purple leaves?

I think that it is indeed possible, Kevin. Just I think the challenge is that hot seems to be dominant....so if you cross, say, Pretty Purple with one of the Islander sweet selections, it would just take a few years of grow outs and selections to find the purple leaf sweet. At least culling the seedlings would be a snap, since the purple leaf shows up so early.

Gosh, I had no internet for so long I have a lot of catching up to do. Yes I know this post is from may...But what the hay.
I was given seeds to a purple leaf purple sweet pepper that they called "midnight" and I grew it last year. The 3 peppers that I got from 4 plants were great tasting and the plants were pretty as well (but NOT productive for me...gotta try again). Oddly though, they were practically seedless. The 1st one had the most seeds but I scarfed that down as soon as it ripened thinking I would have much more. I am going to grow the few seeds I have this year and save every seed. So after the summer (pending I get more seeds this time) I will be happy to send you some. I dont even have a clue if they are OP or a hybrid, but I will find out in a few months.
