Winter/summer views
We had a first snow yesterday and I took a couple of pictures from my balcony, then I remembered the summer view from the same place. Well, I must admit that winter view is really romantic but I prefer summer view

Both views are quite lovely. I wonder if those pale blue flowers are the same ones I see everywhere in Los Angeles.

I don't know what is grown in LA, but the plant with pale blue flowers is Plumbago auriculata, my wife's favorit summer flower .

I enjoyed your photos very much, Marko - especially the summer ones since I too, have very cold weather (and snow) here now.
If I could get away with it, I'd take a cue from the bears and hibernate until spring arrives.

Marko,
Nice pics. Your summer photos look so tropical, it is hard to imagine that it is the same place with the snow! Remy

Slovenia borders Austria to the north, Croatia to the south and Italy to the West. They have beautiful summers but do get the snow in winter. When I was working on the Island of Crete in the Mediterranean by Hania they have the White Mountains. You guessed it, they have snow on them 9 months of the year. Ami

Like Ami said, we have beautiful and long summers, but winters can be quite nasty.
The balcony is facing south west and is very hot in the summer, tried to grow tomatoes there, but it was too hot. Chili peppers grow fine with drip irrigation, wich I also use for some ornamentals. Years ago there was a real jungle, but I simply don't have enough time to manage all. Here's a couple of old scanned photos from 1995: |

Marko,
Your old pics remind me of what my backyard patio was like. I had about 120-160 pots/containers in a south facing 40'x25'(12.19mx7.62m) area....plus whatever else I could getaway with back there. I also used a northwest facing rooftop balcony that was about 3.5mx5.2m for allot of my herbs. Both became "jungle-like" according to other family members. This year I was only allowed to plant ornamentals in the flower beds in the backyard, as the house was listed on the market all summer. Sighhhhhh. Love the contrast between summer and winter in your photos. And I remember taking the train through that area back in the late 70's. Beautiful. |

I found this on plumbago:
...heavenly Plumbago auriculata, which covers itself with sky blue flowers and grows almost like a weed alongside the Los Angeles freeways. So it is the same thing. It really does grow prolifically out there, and I've always wondered what it was. I can understand why it's your wife's favorite. The blue is exquisite. Christine |
