I love to find an old rusted cow trough that is waiting to be hauled off....to my place....so I can compost in it and use it to grow veggies..I use them like a cold frame during winter and early Spring...plant tomatoes or zucchini in the summer...

Very nice Granny! I to have planted in trough's. Last year on June 1st, I planted some Peppers in one, tomatoe in another, and some greens in another.. A week later we were expecting frost, so I covered them up really good. The peppers and tom. got zapped by frost anyways..the metal from the trough was like a magnet and they turned black and mushy. The greens survived..The peppers and tom's that were planted in the ground and covered all survived..Lesson learned. |

I love the big old round troughs for my zucchini....the leaves can really spread out and give protection. Get good yields.
